Swamimalai Murugan
Swamimalai Murugan is a Hindu temple dedicated to Murugan (Karttikeya), located in Swamimalai, Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu. It is one of the Arupadai Veedu — the six sacred abodes of Lord Murugan across Tamil Nadu.
At Swamimalai, near Kumbakonam, the child Murugan taught the meaning of the sacred syllable Om to his own father Shiva — hence his name here, Swaminathan, 'teacher of the lord'. Sixty steps, one for each year of the Tamil calendar cycle, lead to the hilltop sanctum.
