About the Thirukkural
The Thirukkural (or Tirukkuṛaḷ) is a classic of Tamil literature: 1,330 couplets (kural) grouped into 133 chapters, composed by the poet-philosopher Thiruvalluvar over two thousand years ago. Its three books — on virtue (aram), wealth (porul) and love (inbam) — distil practical, secular wisdom for everyday life, which is why it is quoted across faiths and generations. Each day this page brings you one couplet with a short reflection.
